We recently had a joint birthday party for my two older children. I do not like to spend a lot of money to decorate, but I do like to try to use a theme of their choosing. My preschooler wanted a Little Mermaid party and my Kindergartner asked for Star Trek and Space.

I printed out some coloring pages with scenes from The Little Mermaid as an activity for children at the party. My daughter colored one before the party “red like Ariel’s hair” and then I scanned it to our computer.

Using PicMonkey (a free photo editing site), I cropped the image, then I saved it to my computer and printed the image out in wallet size. I trimmed them, and taped a tooth pick to the back: easy, kid-made cupcake topper!

For the Star Trek/Space cupcakes, my son drew a Star Trek ship and I used that as the image to scan. Would your children enjoy creating part of their birthday decorations?

Combining a Little Mermaid themed party with a Star Trek themed party was interesting, but it was fun! I also included our reusable kids birthday decorations that help keep the costs down when I prepare for the kids’ party.
